Former Elizabethtown Police Chief, Charles Taylor, died on Saturday, August 29, 2020. Taylor was 88 years of age.

Taylor served with the Elizabethtown Police Department from 1958 to 1987. He was Police Chief for approximately 15 years.

Many law enforcement members were in attended Taylor’s funeral. The current Police Chief of the Town of Elizabethtown, Tony Parrish, presented a flag to the family on Wednesday during his graveside service.

Taylor and his wife, Gracie ran the Sandwich Shop on Popular Street for 40 years, according to Bladen County Sheriff, Jim McVicker.

Taylor was a member of the Elizabethtown Baptist Church, Elizabethtown Jaycees and the Elizabethtown Kiwanis Club.

Many words of appreciation were expressed on social media for Taylor for his service and dedication to the Town of Elizabethtown for over 29 years.

A drive-thru visitation was held on Tuesday, September 1st at Bladen-Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A graveside service was held on Wednesday, September 2nd in the Wesley’s Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Elizabethtown with the Rev. Neil Smith officiating.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Lower Cape Fear Hospice or Elizabethtown Kiwanis Club.
