Raleigh, N.C. – During a campaign stop in what has long been the least unionized state in the country, Hillary Clinton called for expanding the power of labor union bosses and promoting more collective bargaining while claiming North Carolina was on a “detour” since Governor McCrory took office.
“Roy Cooper and Hillary Clinton are more concerned about empowering labor union bosses, raising taxes and undoing our voter ID law than helping North Carolina families,” said Russell Peck, Governor McCrory’s campaign manager. “Hillary Clinton is right about one thing: North Carolina has been on a ‘detour’ since Governor McCrory took office. Instead of Roy Cooper’s high unemployment, high taxes and falling teacher pay of the past, North Carolina has experienced one of the fastest growing economies in the country, $4.4 billion in tax relief, more than $1 billion in budget surpluses and the largest teacher pay raises in the country under Governor McCrory’s leadership.”
NC’s “Detour” Under Governor McCrory:
*From 5th highest unemployment rate in the country to the lowest unemployment rate in 8 years.
*From one of the worst states hit by recession to one of the fastest growing economies in the country.
*From highest income taxes in the southeast to the most improved tax climate in the country.
*From teacher pay freezes to largest teacher pay raises in the country.
*From $1 billion in education cuts between 2008-2011, to most education funding in state history.
