Charles Ray Peterson, Chairman of the Bladen County Board of County Commissioners, expresses both gratitude and mixed feelings as he announces the retirement of Greg Martin, the esteemed County Manager. After dedicating 22 years to local government, Martin has decided to retire from his influential role.

Reflecting on his tenure, Martin shared, “I deeply love our community and cherish the opportunities I’ve had to collaborate with exceptional leaders on various projects.”

Martin’s tenure was marked by his resilience in the face of significant challenges, including Hurricanes Matthew and Florence. He recalls, “Witnessing our community unite and support each other during tough times has been profoundly rewarding.”

Renowned for his dedication, Martin has been a cornerstone of Bladen County’s growth and development. His collaborative efforts with the Board of Commissioners have notably enhanced the quality of life for residents.

Peterson expressed his feelings about Martin’s move, saying, “This is bittersweet.” Their work together started in 2001-2002, and over the years, there have been numerous accomplishments.

Community members widely recognize the key successes under Martin’s leadership, which have significantly shaped the landscape of Bladen County. His leadership role in the affiliation and subsequent acquisition of Bladen County Hospital by the Cape Fear Valley Health System is an example of his strategic vision. Furthermore, his leadership guidance in developing the county’s strategic plan has played a role in several significant developments. These include the creation of the new town square in Bladenboro, extensive repairs to the Kelly Dike, enhancements at the local airport, and the notable expansion of the Aerospace industry. These initiatives, among others, have been instrumental in driving the county’s economic growth and prosperity.

Chuck Heustess, the Bladen County Economic Development Director, praised Martin’s work ethic and talent, noting his significant contributions across various endeavors. Heustess said, “Greg’s work ethic is beyond reproach.”
