NEWTON GROVE – Weston Hilburn blasted a home run and a double, and Garrett Dunham batted 3-for-3 to lead West Bladen to a 21-7 victory over Hobbton Wednesday night in Junior American Legion baseball action.

Hobbton pushed across a 1st inning run and led 1-0 until West exploded for 13 runs in the 3rd inning. Luke Pait led off with a single, Dunham walked, and Brady Durden belted a single that plated Pait with the tying run.

Cade Allen walked before Hilburn walloped the 3-run homer. Josh Dawson smashed a double, and Jackson Smith walked. Jonah Bryan reached base on an error, and Chase Bryan was hit by a pitch. Pait walked, and Dunham laced a single.

Brady Durden reached on an error, and Allen knocked in 2 runs with a single. Hilburn and Dawson drew walks. Pait, Dunham, Allen and Hilburn scored 2 runs each in the inning, and Brady Durden, Dawson, Smith, Jonah Bryan and Chase Bryan also scored runs.

The Wildcats trimmed the margin to 13-5 with 3 runs in the 3rd and one in the 4th. The Knights widened the gap to 16-5 with 3 runs in the 5th. Gavin Elks reached on a passed 3rd strike, Dunham walked, and Allen reached on an error. All 3 of them scored.

Will Durden walked to start the West 6th inning but was forced out on Aiden Russ’ grounder. Caison Brixey cracked a single, and Elks ripped a double. Dunham singled, and Allen reached on an error, before Hilburn drilled a 2-run double. Russ, Brixey, Elks, Dunham and Allen all scored to pad the lead to 21-5.

Dunham was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and scored 4 runs. Hilburn drove in 5 runs with the homer and the double and scored twice. Elks doubled and scored twice. Dawson doubled, Allen delivered the 2-run single, and Brady Durden, Jonah Bryan, Brixey and Pait added 1 hit each. Allen scored 4 runs, Pait scored 2, and Brady Durden, Dawson, Smith, Jonah Bryan, Russ, Chase Bryan, and Brixey scored 1 run each.

Smith started on the mound and pitched 3 innings allowing 4 runs – 3 earned – on 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 3. Brixey worked 2.2 innings of relief and allowed 3 runs on 2 hits and 4 walks while striking out 3. Elks came on to get the final out in the 6th.

The Knights improved to 1-2 and will host West Columbus Friday at 7 p.m.
