On Tuesday, August 25, Troopers Gary White and Justin Hern of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol stopped a four-wheeler being driven on Highway 87 in Tar Heel around 2:30 p.m.
According to the law enforcement report, while talking with the driver, the troopers were given two fictitious names. While confronting the driver about his information, the driver jumped and ran into the woods behind the Tar Heel Rescue Squad building.
Assistance was requested from the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office and, several Bladen County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with a drone, were dispatched to the area to assist with the search. Officers searched a wooded area behind Tar Heel Rescue to Chickenfoot Road along Tar Heel Road.
After several hours of searching, a trooper conducting line patrol on Tar Heel Road spotted the suspect running into the woods behind a residence. After several minutes, troopers were able to apprehend the suspect.
Charged was Casey Dale Browning, 37 years of age, of 25A Woodbridge Drive, Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Browning was charged with: Driving While Impaired, Resisting Public Officer, and Fictitious Information to Officer.
Browning was placed in the Bladen County Detention Center under a $2,500.00 secured bond.
