NEWTON GROVE – Greg Nobles’ double scored Dawson McLamb in the bottom of the seventh inning, giving the Midway Raiders a 3-2 win over the West Bladen Knights on Friday in a Four County 1A/2A Conference junior varsity baseball game.

The team’s were tied at 2-2 after the regulation six innings. The Knights were not able to score in the top of the seventh. The Midway rally began with a one-out single up the middle by Trevor Hobson. Nobles followed with a double to left-center past the outfielder, allowing courtesy runner McLamb to score the winning run.

Adam Butler was the winning pitcher after holding the Knights scoreless for the final two innings. Austin Raynor pitched the first five innings.

Scott Bowen went the distance on the mound for West Bladen. The freshman right-hander scattered seven hits, struck out four and walked three. He threw 49 strikes and 25 balls. One of the runs was unearned.

Bowen also led the Knights offensively, going 3-for-4 with a double. Caleb Sholar had a pair of singles. Ray Jones had a triple while Colby Smith and Jonathan Robinson each had a single.

West Bladen is 6-4 overall and 2-3 in the conference. The Knights are scheduled to play at Wallace-Rose Hill on Friday in a Four County Conference game.

Midway is 6-2 overall and 4-1 in league play.

The Raiders took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Butler led off with a double, moved to third on a single and scored on a sacrifice fly.

West Bladen tied the game in the third. Smith opened the inning with a single to left. After an out, Bowen doubled to right, sending Smith to third base. Hunter Pait followed with a ground out that scored Smith.

The Knights took a 2-1 lead in the fourth when Jones lined a triple to left-center that rolled to the fence. He scored when Jonathan Ashworth bunted and the throw went into right field when no one covered first base.

Midway tied it in the fifth on a one-out walk to Hobson followed by a single to left by Nobles. McLamb, who was running for Hobson, was able to score when the ball was misplayed.
