ELIZABETHTOWN – A 13-4 fourth period spurt rallied Fairmont to a 43-39 Three Rivers Conference jayvee boys basketball victory over East Bladen Friday night.
The Eagles had possession of the ball and trailing 41-39 in the final minute, but a Fairmont steal and lay-up sealed the verdict.
Guard Zach Meares fired in a 3-point shot and another basket in the first quarter for the Eagles, and center Rasean McKoy dropped in a basket and 2 free throws. Guard Charles Brown popped in a basket and a free throw as the Eagles took a 12-10 lead.
McKoy and Brown drilled in second-quarter 3-point shots, Jacob Priest tossed in a basket, and Mahki Cromartie sank 2 free throws to keep the Eagles even 22-22 at halftime.
Cromartie drained a 3-point shot and another basket, and Meares nailed a 3-point shot and a free throw as the Eagles rode a 13-8 spurt to a 35-30 lead at the third quarter break. McKoy and Brown threw in baskets in the period for East.
McKoy worked the paint for a basket and 2 free throws in the fourth quarter and led the Eagles with a double-double of 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 blocked shots.
Meares finished with 9 points, and Brown followed with 8 points. Cromartie totaled 7 points and 3 rebounds. Priest grabbed 5 rebounds and had 4 steals.
East Bladen will travel to St. Pauls Tuesday night.
