The McDowell & Lesane American Legion Post 404 in Elizabethtown recently sponsored two students to attend a one-week program designed to give teens an insight into training for State Troopers. The program is named “Student Trooper Program” and was held June 16-21.

The training is sponsored annually as a joint venture by the NC American Legion and the State Highway Patrol.

Shade’cia McMillian (pictured, above) and De’Ja McNeil (pictured, left) were Post 404 recipients for 2019. They participated in physical training, classroom activities and recreation as well as rode in patrol cars while living in the training center dorm.

This year’s program saw 29 students from across North Carolina. Graduation ceremonies were held June 21 at the N.C. Highway Patrol Training Academy on Garner Road in Raleigh.
