WILMINGTON – East Bladen’s Lady Eagles built a 22-10 halftime lead then survived a fourth quarter Wilmington Ashley rally to claim a 44-40 victory over the Screaming Eagles Friday night in the Leon Brogden Holliday Tournament.

Senior Erica McKoy tossed in a pair of first quarter baskets, and senior Ja’Tyra Moore-Peterson drained a 3-point shot as East Bladen took a 7-4 lead at the quarter break.

Senior Ashley Hardin fired in a pair of 3-point baskets, and McKoy sank 4 free throws in the second quarter. Freshman Mya McDonald threw in a basket and a free throw, and Moore-Peterson added a basket as the East lead grew to 22-10 at halftime.

McKoy nailed a 3-point shot and a free throw in the third quarter, and sophmore Patience Ward pumped in a basket and a free throw. Moore-Peterson popped in a basket to keep the East Bladen lead at 31-21.

Senior Baili Davenport rang up 4 baskets for Ashley in the final quarter, and sophmore Lexi Hinson netted a pair of baskets.

McDonald delivered a pair of baskets and 2 free throws in the fourth quarter, and Moore-Peterson canned 4 free throws to keep East in front. Ward also tallied a basket in the period.

McKoy led the East Bladen attack with 13 points, Moore-Peterson followed with 11 points, and McDonald finished with 9 points. Hardin totaled 6 points.

Davenport topped the Ashley scoring with 12 points, and Hinson and Ara Toppin scored 8 points each.

Coach Patty Evers’ East Bladen squad improved to 9-1 with the victory and will play Wilmington New Hanover at 12 noon Saturday in the tourney’s fifth-place game.
