SoccerPender knocked in a rebound shot with 15 minutes left to play and edged East Bladen 2-1 Wednesday in Four County Conference men’s soccer action at Burgaw.

The Patriots took a 1-0 lead with a goal ten minutes before intermission.

Following the Pender goal, Eagle sophomore Caleb Hatchell sent the kick-off down the right sideline to sophomore Brooks McGill who ran the pass down. McGill cut across the face of the goal and drilled a shot past the keeper from 14 yards out to tie the game 1-1 about ten seconds after the Patriot goal.

The winning goal came when the Patriots boomed a free kick from 28 yards out that hit the cross bar and ricocheted straight back to a Pender player in the box who banged in the deciding goal.

The Eagles are now 5-11 on the season and will host Heide Trask Monday at 6 p.m.
