
WHITEVILLE – Whiteville Central raced to a 17-0 first quarter lead en route to a 52-20 Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys basketball victory over Clarkton School of Discovery Monday night.
Kayshawn McCollum keyed the Hornet first period spurt with 7 points. The lead grew to 24-7 at halftime. Lee Barnes pumped in a pair of baskets for the Blue Devils in the second quarter. Teammate Aniyaes Bethea dropped in a basket, and Nyquan Richardson sank a free throw.
Bethea threw in a pair of baskets in the third quarter, and Rodney Lacewell tossed in a basket, but the Hornets padded their lead to 37-13.
Richardson caught fire in the final quarter and sandwiched a pair of 2-point baskets around a 3-point bomb. Richardson led CSD with 8 points, Bethea tallied 6 points, and Barnes followed with 4 points.
Bryson Cokley led Central with 10 points, and K. Ganus followed with 9 points.
