Middle School Soccer
Clarkton School of Discovery 2, Elizabethtown 1

Gabe Barber’s throw-in deflected off the goalkeeper and turned into the deciding goal as Clarkton School of Discovery edged Elizabethtown 2-1 in Bladen Five Middle School Conference Soccer action.

A handball in the box set up one Blue Devil goal, and Jake Evans fired in the penalty kick after one penalty kick had been blocked by Elizabethtown goalie Jordan Robinson. On the first attempt an Elizabethtown Middle player stepped in the box just before the kick which awarded Clarkton a second attempt.

Barber’s throw-in that turned into an own goal accounted for the other CSD goal.

“Ever Estrada scored the only goal for us in the second half on an incredible hustle play,” said Cougar Coach Tripp Lancaster.

“This was an excellent game played by both teams who played well and played very hard,” continued Coach Lancaster. “It’s extremely disappointing that a game like that had to be decided by a technicality that made no difference in the play. Both teams deserved better than that.”

Clarkton improved to 2-1 in the Bladen Five and will return to action Tuesday at 5 p.m. against Bladenboro.

Elizabethtown is now 1-2 and will play Tar Heel Monday at 5 p.m.
