ELIZABETHTOWN – Tatum Allen and Gracey Edwards combined to pitch a 2-hit shutout and strike out 11 batters as Emereau Bladen defeated Clarkton School of Discovery 14-0 Thursday in non-conference softball action.
Allen started in the circle and worked 3 innings, striking out 8 and allowing 2 hits and a walk. Edwards struck out the side in the 4th inning and walked one.
Jaimee Perkins cracked a 1-out single in the Emereau 1st inning, stole 2 bases and raced home when Edwards belted a single.
Abby Dicicco walked to begin the 2nd inning, advanced on a passed ball and dashed home when Sadie Brown slammed a double. Emma Adams reached base on a passed 3rd strike that scored Brown.
Taylor Dowless walked, and both Adams and Dowless scored on wild pitches. Perkins walked and Edwards knocked her in with a single. Edwards scored as Emma Fisher reached base on an error for a 7-0 Lady Aviator lead.
Dowless walked and Perkins reached base on an error in the 3rd inning. Allen walloped a 3-run home run to left-center field that plated Dowless and Perkins. Edwards smacked a single, stole 2 bases and scored to push the lead to 11-0.
Rylee Usher and Mollie Sasser laced singles to start the Lady Aviator 4th inning, and Dowless blasted a 3-run home run to end the game.
Edwards finished 3-for-3 at the plate with 2 runs batted in and 2 runs scored to lead the Emereau hitters. Dowless homered, walked twice, scored 3 runs and had 3 RBIs. Allen homered, scored a run and had 3RBIs.
Brown smashed the RBI double and scored a run. Perkins singled, walked and scored 3 runs. Usher and Sasser both singled and scored runs. Dicicco walked and scored a run, and Adams scored a run.
Kynzlee Wood started and pitched 1-plus innings for Clarkton allowing 5 runs on 3 hits, 3 walks and a hit batter while striking out one. Zoie Durden relieved in the 2nd inning and allowed 9 runs on 6 hits and 4 walks while striking out four.
Tyliah Freeman and Ellie Kinlaw connected for 1 hit each for the Lady Blue Devils, and Wood and Nadya Colon drew walks.
Emereau Bladen, now 2-1, will host Spirit of Life Thursday at 5 p.m. Clarkton, now 0-2, will host Tabor City Tuesday at 4 p.m.
