There also were raffle drawings, games, hikes, face painting, displays and special events that took place at the state park located off N.C. 242 outside of Elizabethtown. It was sponsored by Friends of the Bay Lakes. Emergency management units and personnel were on hand as were firefighting units and law enforcement personnel.

The four-hour event was sponsored by Friends of the Bay Lakes Group, which is a non-profit, tax-exempt charitable organization that advocates and supports the programs carried out at Jones and Singletary Lake State Parks. The funds raised by Friends of the Bay Lakes Group stays with Jones and Singletary Lake State Parks to assist with purchasing educational supplies and goods that are used for various activities that these parks offer. Some examples include the purchase of plastic eggs and candy that was used during the Easter egg gunt and trophies that have been presented at past car shows. The group also received a grant from the Friends of State Parks to purchase T-shirts that are for sale at Singletary Lake.

Friends of the Bay Lakes Group accepts donations and is always looking for new members. For more information, call Jones Lakes State Park at (910) 588-4550 or stop by the park’s visitor center.
