WASHINGTON –Junior Emma Orr slugged a home run and a double and pitched a 1-hit shutout to lead Washington to a 10-0 victory over West Bladen in the opening round of the NCHSAA Class 2A softball playoffs Tuesday night.

The Lady Knights, the No. 28 seed in the 2A East, finished their season with a 7-8 record. Washington, the No. 5 seed, improved to 17-3 and will host Heide Trask in the 2nd round.

Orr pitched a 1-hitter and struck out 14 batters. At the plate the junior left-hander finished 3-for-3 at the plate with 5 runs batted in and 3 runs scored. Sophomore Carly Woolard batted 2-for-3 with a double and 2 runs batted in. Junior Addison Miller doubled and scored 2 runs.

Senior Gracie Faircloth rapped a 1st inning single for the Lady Knights. Junior Marlene Crabtree started in the circle for the Lady Knights and pitched 2 innings, allowing 7 runs – 4 earned- on 5 hits and 3 walks. Faircloth worked 2.1 innings of relief and allowed 3 runs – 1 earned – on 2 hits while striking out 1.
