WINNABOW – Lumberton defeated Bladen County 8-1 Monday in a winner’s bracket game in the 2024 North Carolina Junior Dixie Boys State Tournament at Town Creek Park.
Bladen County receives a bye Tuesday and will play the loser of Tuesday’s Lumberton/Columbus County game Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in an elimination game.
Aidan Thompson blasted a lead-off double in the Bladen 4th inning. Two outs later Jayden Bethea walked, and Greylon Robinson reached base on an error. Thompson scored the only Bladen run in the game.
Gaston Russ batted 2-for-4 to lead the Bladen hitters. Thompson slammed the double and scored the run. Bethea also belted a single for the other Bladen hit.
