Department named ‘Military Friendly Employer’

RALEIGH – An organization that helps people leaving the military find civilian jobs is recognizing the N.C. Department of Transportation as a supportive agency.

Viqtory Inc., a military marketing company, announced this week it would brand NCDOT as a 2024 Military Friendly Employer. This is the third consecutive year the department has received this honor.

“Military veterans bring a wealth of experience, organizational skills, adaptability, discipline and teamwork,” said Amanda Olive, the department’s Human Resources director. “ We are a large employer with many types of jobs that offer an exciting new career to people exiting the military.”

With over 640 veterans and reservists, nearly 7% of NCDOT’s workforce of about 9,400 permanent, full-time employees has military experience.

The recognition coincides with Gov. Cooper’s announcement Thursday that North Carolina has been named by Forbes a top-50 Best Employer for Veterans in the country.

According to Viqtory, over 1,500 companies compete annually for the Military Friendly Employer label, and Viqtory whittles down the list to about 300 firms based on several criteria that include an employer’s commitment, effort and success at giving military veterans new careers.

In recent years, NCDOT has increased its outreach efforts to military veterans, transitioning military and military spouses. A state law allows the department to give eligible veterans preference in hiring over other applicants.

The department is always looking to recruit talented employees and fill vacancies across its various divisions. Interested individuals can go online to find NCDOT openings.
