Spread the love

To the editor:

As a member of the Bladen County Board of Elections, I was pleasantly surprised when Bladen County Commissioner Chair Ray Britt publicly advocated to the North Carolina State Board of Elections for expanding early voting in our county by adding more early voting sites and including Sunday Voting.

In doing so he stated that adding early voting sites “is not a prohibitive expense”  and noted that “it is the duty of the board of County Commissioners to appropriate reasonable and adequate funds necessary for the legal functions of the county board of elections”.

This certainly represents a change in board of commission policy from previous years, one that is welcomed by not only our board of elections members, but also everyone who realizes the importance of free and fair elections to our great American democracy.

As I feel certain Chair Ray Britt would not have made such a definitive public statement without the agreement of the entire board of commissioners, I want to thank the Bladen County Board of Commissioners for supporting the expansion of early voting by adding sites and expanding hours to include Sunday voting.

This will allow not only the current board of elections but also future boards to continue to expand early voting opportunities throughout the county by adding additional sites and extending hours throughout our county.

Thank you again to Bladen County Commissioners Chair Ray Britt and the entire board for their very public support of both early voting expansion and Sunday voting.

Sincerely,

Patsy Sheppard

Bladen County Board of Elections Member
