Spread the love

Since the Coronavirus outbreak, a lot of bad news has hit the airwaves. What is disappointing is the way some people respond during times of crisis.

Once we published that Bladen County’s first case of COVID-19 (coronavirus) had been confirmed this past Thursday, we did not see anyone posting sympathies for the person that just received the devastating diagnoses. The comments on social media sounded anxious and angry at the person for traveling.

Some popular television “news” sites wanted to report “predictions” of the upcoming hurricane season. Mind you now, hurricane season is months away and we still have people recovering from the past two hurricanes that hit our county. Some are still homeless under our Stay at Home order! Is the sensationalism worth it?

Politicians who clearly disregard our laws take advantage of the outbreak by selling stocks to pad their pockets, while other elected officials working hard to serve our citizens are attacked simply for being a rare beauty. These same trolls on social media blasting someone for the way they look want to call others bullies.

Some Liberals throw punches when some Conservative say people should be working at this time due to the weakened economy. I saw a post this week referring to Conservatives caring more about “embryos than Grandmas”.

Hypocrites are everywhere!

Yes, I said it. So what is a hypocrite? According to Dictionary.com, a person who pretends to have virtues, morals or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that he or she does not actually possess, especially a person whose actions belie (or fail) stated beliefs.

Anyone looking close enough in a mirror will find one. However, it is a fact, all living beings are precious. May we take this crisis as an opportunity to keep the praises coming. Look for the good in people and the situation. Look for ways to be a blessing and not a curse.

At this time hard information does have to be addressed, but it does not have to be taken to extremes and dwelled upon. We have reported on a very small fraction of the good news happening around us. If you have something positive to share, please send it to us. Email the information to gm@bladenonline.com.

Healthcare workers and first responders are risking their safety for the health and well being of others. Restaurants, grocery stores, and food processing workers are taking a hit, but continue to offer their services with added precautions.

Construction workers are responsible for building homes and other facilities keeping us safe and comfortable. Faith-based leaders are thinking outside the box to offer encouragement during the crisis. Some elected officials are working extra hours to offer citizens assistance. Media outlets are sifting through changing information striving to bring truth to others. Bankers, gas stations attendance, small business owners and so many others are striving to provide services while remaining at a safe distance. Home-makers are using their skills to make masks, cook good meals, and calm their loved ones. Educators and Truck Drivers are delivering what we need despite the pandemic.

The list goes on and on. May we focus on the good, while we observe and acknowledge the crisis without letting it rule us.
