Thoughts While Shaving
Spread the love

Remember yoyos, a toy available at most toy stores, including Toys R Us?  One of many items we no longer see or hear about…not like he or she is a yoyo. That usually led one to believe someone was/is, quiet a character.

The folks who make handkerchiefs must be suffering, young folks, maybe some older folks do not carry them anymore.  Not me, if I have my pants on, there’s about a 99.9 percent chance I have a hanky.

I recall going on a date, or had some other reason to travel and pull into store and purchase a dollars worth of gas….about 3 gallons.  A dollar’s worth of gas today will get you to the next gas station, if you are lucky and it’s only about a block away.

Remember when you had to pump the gas up, out of ground tank I suppose, then drain it into your auto gas tank?  Only time you see one today is at an old, country store, most likely long abandoned.

Lots of tobacco barns still dot the landscape, but most in need of repair…Barning the tobacco, memories of long hours, hot weather and little pay, like 30 or 40 cents an hour.

I worked in a grocery store while in high school and a year or so after graduation.  If a questionable character, a questionable character was anyone that purchased over some set amount of sugar, a few gallon or half-gallon jars and two or three other items that would lead one to believe they were making home-brew, had to get the number off their drivers license…no idea what happened after that.  Guess the customer made some home-brew and the store owner filed the info just in case the revenuers came calling.

I was learning about more than, reading, writing and arithmetic.

Remember RJR smoking tobacco in a tin can?  Not sure if it is still available…Could roll your own or chew or dip, not sure how it was described.  I tried it a couple of time, but not man enough to use it, thank goodness.

Don’t think there were any government shutdowns back then, and if there were, most never ‘heard about it’, unless it was on WCKY-AM Cincinnati, Ohio, or some other far away station.  By the time locals received the message it was most likely over.

Stress, anxiety and depression are caused when we are living to please others.  Paulo Coelho

Nostalgia is a file that removes the rough edges from the good old days.  Doug Larson
