Off election year simply means no presidential contest this year, but so many important ‘races’ to be determined.

Thinking back to the first election I remember, was 1952 when President Dwight D. Eisenhower(R) defeated former Illinois Governor Adlai Stevenson(D) in a landslide.  Bladenboro Future Farmers of America (FFA) members were participating in a calf sale.  We were in a tobacco warehouse in Whiteville with a ‘cracklin’ AM radio, several high school students who knew nothing about politics, probably cared less, but kinda got ‘caught up’ in in the moment.  It was something to do, lasted all night long and no one was in a mood to sleep anyway.

Find it interesting that all former governors, both parties, and many former judges are ‘publicly opposing’ the proposed North Carolina amendments on this years ballot.  The most vague explanation ever proposed for constitutional amendments, my personal opinion.  Understand it is a power play by the legislature to take some power from the office of the governor.  The way it is written, whether you agree with the thought or not, may be the most misleading item ever on a NC ballot. And grown, elected officials authored them, and now asking us to re-elect them.  Too much bickering among both parties and too little work that needs to be done, to deal with such issues…again, my opinion. If changes are needed, be clear what the issues are and state them plain and simple.  Quit playing games.

I am about to believe term limits for all political offices would be good.  If it is good for the President and the Governor, why not for all offices?

Still contemplating, and not likely if politicians are to make the decision.

Pardon me as I step off the stump!

Man is by nature a political animal.  Aristottle

You’re not just voting for an individual, in my judgment, you’re voting for an agenda.  You’re voting for a platform.  You’re voting for a political philosophy.  Colin Powell

The objective I propose is quite simple to state: to foster the infrastructure of democracy – the system of a free press, unions, political parties, universities – which allows a people to choose their way to develop their own culture, to reconcile their own differences through peaceful means.  Ronald Reagan
