As of 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12, there have been 132 responses with three signings now and 129 signings for the drive-in plan.

The COVID-19 outbreak has caused a lot of plans for high school seniors to be canceled. The pandemic has caused graduation ceremonies to look different too. Bladen County Schools announced a graduation plan on Friday, May 8th, for both East and West Bladen High Schools.

The Schools’ plan follows the current COVID-19 Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines with strict protocols. The officials’ plan has both school graduation ceremonies happening simultaneously. Also, temperature checks of each senior and person in attendance will be taken before participants are allowed in the school buildings. These are two of the multiple guidelines the Schools have laid out.

Jennifer Potter, a parent of a senior high school student, announced a new plan some parents put together over Mother’s Day weekend. The parents’ plans also adhere to CDC guidelines but allow for drive-in graduations allowing more participation than the schools’ proposed plan.

Some parents, students, and others are planning a protest at the Bladen County Schools District Office today at 1 p.m. The rally is to show support for the drive-in graduations and to present the new proposed plan to the school board.
