Life can take unexpected turns, and for Gary, a dedicated retired North Carolina State Trooper and Bladen County Sheriff’s First Sergeant, his journey has taken a challenging course since his diagnosis of multiple myeloma last July. As Gary battles this debilitating cancer, the mounting medical bills have added stress to his already difficult situation. However, his community is not letting him fight alone. Through a series of fundraising events and initiatives, friends, family, and supporters are coming together to provide financial support and assistance to this Hometown Hero who has dedicated his life to serving and protecting. Today, explore Gary’s story and the various efforts being made to help him during this incredibly challenging time.

Throughout his career as a North Carolina State Trooper and a First Sergeant in the Bladen County Specialized Training Unit, Gary has been a pillar of strength in his community. He served his fellow citizens through his work and continued his dedication as the Treasurer of the Stoney Point Volunteer Fire Department Board of Directors. His commitment to protecting and supporting others earned him the respect and admiration of those who know him, and he has inspired many.

Last July, Gary’s life took an unexpected turn when he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a rare form of cancer affecting plasma cells in the bone marrow. Despite the challenges of the disease, Gary faced it with courage and resilience. However, his ability to continue working was cut short when he developed cancer while serving with the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office. Since his diagnosis, he has been unable to work, further complicating his financial situation.

Gary’s fight against multiple myeloma has left him facing mounting medical bills, creating a significant financial burden for him and his family. Recognizing the weight of this challenge, his friends, family, and community members have rallied together to offer their support and assistance. The goal is to ease the financial strain on Gary and his loved ones so they can focus on his health and well-being during this trying time.

One of the primary initiatives taken to support Gary is the creation of a GoFundMe campaign. The GoFundMe page serves as a platform for individuals to make monetary donations directly to help cover the medical expenses and other essential needs that arise from his battle with cancer. The community has come forward generously, showcasing their love and appreciation for Gary’s years of dedicated service. There is a goal on the fundraising website to raise $25,000 to help Gary with his medical needs. So far, over $5,000 has been raised.

A special event called “Car Crush” has been organized to raise funds while bringing the community together. On Sunday, July 30, starting at 10 am, participants can make a $5 donation and choose from various tools, including spray paint, sledgehammers, bats, and crowbars, to take a swing at a donated vehicle from the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office. This fun and unique event raises funds and offers participants a chance to let off steam while supporting a meaningful cause.

Another exciting event during the fundraiser is the Redneck BBQ Lab plate sale. For just $10, attendees can enjoy a delicious plate of BBQ, baked beans, bread rolls, and coleslaw. The proceeds from this plate sale will go towards Gary’s medical expenses, allowing people to enjoy good food while contributing to a worthy cause.

A selection of baked goods will be available for purchase to enhance the fundraiser further. Additionally, attendees can participate in raffle draws with enticing prizes, contributing to fundraising efforts. These aspects of the event encourage everyone, even those unable to attend, to support Gary and his family during this challenging period. The event will be held at 5435 Corporation Drive in Hope Mills, North Carolina.

Gary’s journey has touched the hearts of many. Through the GoFundMe campaign, the Car Crush event, and various other initiatives, the community’s response demonstrates the profound impact one individual can have on those around them.
