Who says homemade donuts require hours of prep and fancy ingredients? Today’s recipe of the day features a delightful shortcut – Pillsbury biscuit donuts! This quick and easy recipe transforms those fluffy refrigerated biscuits into delicious donuts that are perfect for satisfying your sweet tooth without a huge investment of time or effort.

Ingredients:

  • 1 can (10 oz) Pillsbury Grands Flaky Layers Original Biscuits
  • Vegetable oil for frying (enough to fill a pot or Dutch oven to a depth of 2-3 inches)
  • Granulated sugar, for coating (about ½ cup)
  • Optional toppings: cinnamon sugar, powdered sugar glaze, melted chocolate, sprinkles

Instructions:

  1. Fill a large pot or Dutch oven with vegetable oil and heat it over medium heat to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Separate the biscuits in the can and decide if you want classic donuts or donut holes. For donut holes, use a small round cookie cutter to cut out the centers of each biscuit. Reserve the centers for another use (biscuit sliders, anyone?), or re-roll and cut additional donut holes.
  3. Carefully place the biscuits (or donut holes) into the hot oil. Don’t overcrowd the pan; fry in batches of 2-3 at a time. Fry for 1-2 minutes per side or until golden brown.
  4. While the donuts are still hot, remove them from the oil with a slotted spoon and drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil. Immediately coat them in your chosen topping. Here are some ideas:
    1. Pour granulated sugar into a shallow dish. While the donuts are hot, roll them in the sugar to coat them evenly.
    2. Cinnamon Sugar: Combine granulated sugar with ground cinnamon in a shallow dish and roll the donuts in the mixture for a warm and spicy twist.
    3. Powdered Sugar Glaze: Whisk together powdered sugar and milk until smooth to create a simple glaze. Dip the top side of each donut in the glaze and let the excess drip off before decorating with sprinkles.
    4. Melted Chocolate: For a richer flavor, dip the donuts halfway into melted chocolate and decorate with sprinkles or chopped nuts before the chocolate hardens.
  5. Let the donuts cool slightly before devouring them.

Maintaining the right oil temperature is key for perfect donuts. Use a thermometer to ensure it stays around 350°F (175°C) to prevent undercooked or overcooked treats. But don’t be afraid to get creative! Once those golden beauties are out of the oil, the fun begins. Crushed nuts, shredded coconut, or even a drizzle of caramel sauce can transform your donuts into unique flavor masterpieces. So, ditch the store-bought donuts, and grab your favorite toppings, and with Pillsbury biscuit donuts, you can whip up a batch of delicious homemade treats in a fraction of the time! Now that’s donut delight in minutes!
