Spread the love

Relay For Life is a community-based fundraising event for cancer institutions and associations. Since the late 1990s, Relay For Life has taken place in Bladen County. The first Relay For Life Event Chair in Bladen County was Mrs. Linda Burney.

Current event lead, Mary Williams, stated, “Through the years we have had so many great relays, dedicated volunteers, participants, survivors, and volumes of Bladen County sponsors. We still need each of you, especially during these uncertain times. Bladen County RFL has brought about a difference and awareness in this fight against cancer.”

Hope Lodge is where families are housed while the patient is in treatment for an extended period of time, or lives a long distance from their treatment center. Road to Recovery is a volunteer service through the American Cancer Society. If one does not have transport to their appointment, there are those who give their time and resources to transport. Volunteers are welcomed and appreciated. Call 1-888-794-6233.

Event Lead Mary Williams added, “As our environment improves and the CDC lifts more restrictions, we will continue our events at full scale.”

The luminaria ceremony scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed due to weather. A new date will be announced at a later time.
