In the heart of Bladen County, the passing of Captain Daniel M. Clark has left a void that is irreplaceable. A distinguished member of the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), Captain Clark’s dedication to his community and unwavering loyalty to his team were the hallmarks of his career, setting a standard of excellence for all who knew him.

Captain Clark’s journey with the BCSO began in September 2010, a career characterized by devotion and service until his untimely passing at his home on April 1, 2024. Throughout his tenure, Captain Clark distinguished himself in various capacities, including Patrol, K-9 Officer, Narcotics, and the Criminal Investigation Division, before his well-deserved promotion to Captain in 2022.

Bladen County Sheriff Jim McVicker expressed the collective grief and shock of the Sheriff’s Office on social media, urging the community to keep Captain Clark’s family, friends, and colleagues in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. The loss of Captain Clark, has deeply affected the BCSO, leaving colleagues and the community he served struggling to come to terms with his absence.

Among the many voices expressing their sorrow and admiration were Jessica Clarke Jackson, a community member whose personal story of Captain Clark’s kindness highlights his commitment to going above and beyond the call of duty. When faced with a roadside emergency, Captain Clark stopped to assist with a tire change, a simple act of service that left a lasting impression on those he helped.

Jackson stated, “He was very kind and went over and above his duty! He will greatly be missed! God speed brother!”

Before embarking on his distinguished career with the Sheriff’s office, Captain Clark served as a combat medic in the Army, a role that honed his instincts for quick thinking and lifesaving under pressure. These invaluable skills came to the forefront in 2022 when Clark heroically used his medical training to save a woman’s life after she was viciously attacked by two dogs. This act of bravery not only underscored his dedication to public service but also highlighted the depth of his commitment to protecting and aiding his community in any way possible.

Sheriff McVicker acknowledged the difficulty BCSO faces in grappling with the news of Captain Clark’s passing. He played a significant role in the BCSO, leaving behind a legacy of professional excellence and personal kindness. As the community mourns, there is a collective call for thoughts and prayers for those working through this tragedy. The cause of Captain Clark’s death has not been disclosed at this time.

As Bladen County remembers Captain Daniel M. Clark, his contributions to public safety and community service stand as a testament to his character and dedication. Retired K9 Deputy Jaxx with Bladen County Sheriff’s Office will be laid to rest with his handler Capt. Daniel Clark. Capt. Clark continued to care for Retired K9 Jaxx at his home. This decision was made after consulting with a local veterinary and the family of Capt. Clark as Jaxx was in failing health over the past months. Retired K9 Jaxx will be cremated and laid to rest with his handler Capt. Daniel Clark.

Retired K9 Deputy Jax was 10 years old and had 8 years of service.
