Steven Pfaff with the National Weather Service Office in Wilmington has issued the following update on the outage and damage repair for the Winnabow NOAA tower. The Winnabow, NC NOAA Weather Radio tower serves Columbus, Bladen, Brunswick, New Hanover, and Pender Counties.

Pfaff said, “The new antenna and cable installation are continuing today at the Winnabow, NC NOAA Weather Radio transmitter. Yesterday the 8 bay antenna was hoisted and installed.”

He said the installation is expected to be completed by late Friday or on Saturday. All other work on the tower has been completed.

*Once completed, there will be improved cable rigging that will lead to reduced signal loss and a better antennae in place to improve service across southeast NC and adjacent coastal waters.
