River flooding is becoming a concern with the rainfall amounts that are forecast for the duration of Hurricane Florence. In a conference call on Friday morning, National Weather Service Meteorologists, Steven Pfaff, and Rick Neuherz said flooding could reach as high as Hurricane Matthew in some locations.
Neuherz stressed flooding will be contingent on rainfall amounts received throughout the storm. Bladen County was projected to receive as much as 25 inches of rain.
Neuherz said the Cape Fear River at William O. Huske Lock and Dam No. 1 could reach moderate to major flood stage depending on the amount of rainfall.
The Cape Fear River in Elizabethtown was forecast to reach moderate to major flood stage, but Neuherz stressed that could change as Hurricane Florence drifts westward.
Neuherz also said the Lumber River in Robeson County could reach, or surpass the flooding of Hurricane Matthew.
Bladen County Emergency Management said on their Social Media account that no evacuations have been ordered in Bladen County as of 1:30 p.m. Friday, September 14. They continue to monitor the storm and its progress.
