In this spirit, we would like to inform the residents and travelers of Bladen County about a significant road closure and traffic restriction in the area.
ELWELL FERRY Closure:
Starting from 7:00 AM on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, the Elwell Ferry will be temporarily closed to all traffic. This closure is expected to last until 7:00 AM on Monday, October 2, 2023. During this period, the Elwell Ferry will be unavailable for use.
The closure is necessary for maintenance and improvements to be carried out, ensuring that the ferry continues to provide safe and reliable service to the community. We apologize for any inconvenience this temporary closure may cause and appreciate your understanding as we work to enhance the ferry’s operational integrity.
US Highway 701N Closure and Traffic Restriction:
In addition to the Elwell Ferry closure, please be aware that there is a traffic adjustment on US Highway 701N. Northbound traffic on this route has been rerouted to the new bridge. This rerouting is part of ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and traffic flow in the region.
Furthermore, please note that a WIDE LOAD TRAFFIC RESTRICTION is in effect along US Highway 701N. This restriction is in place to ensure the safety of all road users and to prevent any potential traffic incidents involving oversized vehicles. We kindly ask all drivers to adhere to this restriction and plan their routes accordingly.
