Rodin The ThinkerThere is excitement brewing on the campus of Methodist University in Fayetteville as pieces of art for an upcoming Rodin art exhibit have begun arriving, according to the Fayetteville Observer. The exhibit, “Rodin: Portraits of a Lifetime -selections for the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Collections” is slated to open on Thursday, Feb. 11, in the university’s David McCune International Art Gallery. The exhibit will be in place at the gallery until May 7.

The gallery’s hours of operation are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Thursdays from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. and Saturdays from noon until 4 p.m.The museum is closed Sundays and Mondays and March 25-26.

Rodin, a French sculptor, is known for such works as The Thinker, The Kiss, and the Athlete to name just a few of his more famous works of art. Rodin was born Auguste Rodin in France in 1840 and died in 1917. according to the Rodin Museum website. He is known as much as for controversies that were caused by his works as he is for the artwork itself, according to the museum website.

A reception will take place on Feb. 11 from 6 until 9 p.m. and Judith Sobol, who is the executive director for the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Foundation, will be the guest speaker discussing the Rodin collection at 7 p.m. For more information about the exhibit, contact the gallery by calling 910-425-5379.
