Bladen Community College is celebrating their 50th anniversary in 2017 and the Rotarians with the Elizabethtown Rotary Club learned about the college’s history. Cathy Kinlaw with Bladen Community College spoke to the group about many exciting events which are planned to mark the occasion.

Kinlaw shared a video with the club which depicted some of the things taking place in the world the year Bladen Community College first opened its doors. Some of the highlights of the video included footage of the Top 15 songs of 1967 and images of popular culture of the time.

Coming up, during the month of October, everyone is encouraged to walk 50 miles and  luminaries will be sold to support scholarships.

On Wednesday, October 18th, there will be a 1960s themed Fall Festival on the main campus and on Thursday, October 26th, there will be a student Hall of Fame display in Classroom Building 1.

There are plans for a musical called, “BCC 50th Anniversary-The Musical.” This is planned for Thursday, November 9, from 7 until 9 p.m.  After the musical, attendees can walk along a sidewalk illuminated with luminaries to the Student Resource Center for a tree lighting ceremony followed by refreshments.

A time capsule will be buried at the all campus assembly on Thursday, November 16th, and on Friday, December 1st, the 82nd Airborne Chorus is tentatively scheduled to present a holiday show in the auditorium at 7 p.m.

Everyone is encouraged to attend these events and help the college to celebrate its milestone.
