The Elizabethtown Rotary Club met on Wednesday afternoon and heard about some exciting upcoming events planned for the summer by the Elizabethtown-White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.
Chamber Executive Director Dawn Maynard addressed the group and told them about the exciting new Chamber Ambassadors program. She said the Ambassadors program held a public meeting on March 17 at San Jose Restaurant. Maynard said that currently 11 and possibly 12 folks have agreed to serve as Chamber Ambassadors.
“They will be good advocates for the Chamber in the community and they will also assist with events,” said Maynard.
She also told the group about several upcoming events including the 38th annual White Lake Water Festival. Some of the events planned for this year’s festival include an array of bands, a classic car cruise in, vendors, kids activities including Mickey Mouse and Hamburglar, and a parade on Saturday. Also, on Saturday, there will be activities at the field across form the Scotchman on US 701 to include a classic car show, games, a tractor pull and more.
Maynard said that plans are also under way for the 40th annual White Lake Water Festival. She said one event that the committee would like to bring back includes the Shag contest.
The Summer Sounds Concert series is also gearing up to kick off. The concert series is presented by Cape Fear Valley-Bladen County Hospital and the Chamber. The line up includes such bands as The Entertainers from Myrtle Beach, Spare Change of La Grange, the River Mist Band from Fayetteville, and Blackwater Rhythm and Blues Band.
The Chamber Banquet is also planned for June 21. Maynard said there will be a Mini Expo that give businesses the opportunity to decorate and sponsor a table. She said there will also be time for networking with each other as well.
“I enjoy working with the Chamber,” said Maynard.
She said that the Chamber is also exploring the possibility of doing a concert series at White Lake.
