Giving a heartfelt presentation, Sheriff Jim McVicker, explains how “your” Sheriff’s Department is making a difference.  The Elizabethtown Rotary Club’s speaker took the time to discuss the new philosophy behind the Sheriff’s Department.

McVicker-RotaryThe newly elected Sheriff started with, “I’m your Sheriff and I have the honor of working with your Sheriff’s Department.  I’m just a gate keeper.”  McVicker did touch on some of the areas that concern our community members. Issues with drugs and crimes are being addressed. Another hot topic is the new jail in the process of being built.

It has been proposed to build the new jail on the county property located on Smith Circle in Elizabethtown.  McVicker introduced Captain Jeff Singletary to the Rotary club as well. Singletary has been very instrumental in the new jail process.

A club member asked, “How can the community show appreciation to our police force when they put their life on the line for us everyday?” McVicker said, “First of all, pray for us every day.  Most police would rather receive a letter of recommendation than have a pay raise. So, the next time you see a police officer, walk up and speak to them. That will make their day. We want people to know our deputies and me on a  first name basis.”

The new goals of the department are to be more professional, more courteous, more compassionate and solve crimes while taking more time with people. If you would like to meet the new Sheriff, the Deputies or the staff members stop by the Sheriff’s Department in Elizabethtown.
