Bladen County Sheriff's DepartmentThe Bladen County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a Church Security and Training meeting tonight (Monday, Feb. 8) at the Elizabethtown Baptist Church fellowship hall that is open to the public and is targeted for pastors and church officials in the county.

“We have invited all interested churches to attend. The meeting will be to explain a new program the Sheriff’s office will be offering to any church interested concerning security and safety,” said Bladen County Chief Deputy Larry Guyton.

Guyton said the Sheriff’s Office will, when invited, go to a church and assess their security needs and help them organize and train for situations that could involve an active shooter such as happened in Charleston and recently in Fayetteville.

Since 1999 there have been 1,018 acts of violence at places of worship resulting in 549 deaths, said Guyton.

The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall of the Elizabethtown Baptist Church, 1800 West Broad Street, Elizabethtown.
