BLADENBORO – Junior Alara Cashwell walloped a grand-slam home run to cap a 7-run sixth inning that secured a 16-8 Three Rivers Conference softball victory for West Bladen over St. Pauls Tuesday night.

The Lady Knights carried a 9-7 lead into the home sixth, but sophmore Alyssa Suggs slammed a double to left-centerfield and her courtesy runner, Madison Walters, sprinted home when freshman Hannah Pait lined a single to centerfield. Sophmore Shelby Pharr, junior Kasee Singletary, and junior Tatiana Hunt all drew walks to force home sophmore Armani Cowan, the pinch-runner for Pait.
Junior Kyla Reed drew a walk to force home freshman Haley Guyton, the courtesy runner for Pharr. Cashwell then crushed a home run over the right-centerfield fence to boost the Lady Knight lead to 16-7.

Bessie Locklear doubled and scored the final St. Pauls run in the seventh inning.

Cashwell batted 2-5 with a home run, a double, 6 runs batted in and scored 2 runs. Hannah Pait turned in a perfect 4-4 game at the plate with 3 rbi’s and 2 runs scored. Hunt batted 2-4 with 2 doubles, 3 runs scored and an rbi.

Reed finished 2-3 at the plate with a double and an rbi. Brisson batted 2-4 with 2 doubles, an rbi and a run scored. Suggs finished 2-5 at the plate with a double. Pharr slammed a double and drove in 2 runs. Singletary, sophmore Taylor West, Guyton and Cowan scored runs.

The Lady Knights jumped in front with a 4-run first inning. Hunt walked, Reed reached base on an error, and Cashwell knocked them both in with a double to left-centerfield. Brisson belted a single to right-centerfield that scored Cashwell. Hannah Pait slapped a single to rightfield, stole second base and scored as Pharr reached base on an error.

St. Pauls scored a run on two errors in the second inning then bunched 2 hits, an error and a pair of fielder’s choices to tie the game 4-4 with 3 runs in the third inning.

The Lady Knights answered with 4 runs in the home third to put the Lady Knights up 8-4. Brisson walked, and Suggs beat out an infield hit. Hannah Pait ripped a single to centerfield that scored Brisson and Walters, the courtesy runner for Suggs. Pharr hammered a double to right-centerfield that scored Pait, and Hunt drilled a double to right-centerfield that scored West, the courtesy runner for Pharr.

The Lady Bulldogs used 4 hits – 2 infield hits – to score 2 runs and trim the margin to 8-6 top of the fifth.

Hunt smashed a double to left-centerfield in the fifth inning and darted home when Reed walloped a double into the leftfield corner to pad the lead to 9-6.

Freshman Jordan Ivey’s rbi single for St. Pauls whittled the lead to 9-7 in the top of the sixth.

Pharr pitched a complete-game to pick up the win and allowed 8 runs – 4 earned – on 10 hits and no walks while striking out two.

Bessie Locklear batted 2-4 with a double and 2 runs scored for St. Pauls. Sanchious finished 2-4 with a run scored. Braxtin Kinlaw also batted 2-4 with 2 runs scored.

The Lady Knights improved to 3-1 in the league and 4-1 overall. West Bladen will travel to South Columbus Friday night.
