SHALLOTTE – Senior Hailey Woodard launched a walk-off solo home run over the center field fence that lifted West Brunswick to a 3-2 non-conference softball victory over East Bladen Wednesday night.

East Bladen, now 4-9 overall, will return to Waccamaw Conference play Thursday night at West Columbus. West Brunswick, now 8-9, will travel to New Hanover Friday.

The Lady Eagles led 2-0 before the Lady Trojans rallied with 2 runs in the 6th inning. Victoria Heady reached base on a 1-out error, and Aubrey Brown walked. One out later Alivia West drove in Heady with a single and an error on the play scored Brown with the tying run.

The 1st batter in the West 7th inning struck out before Woodard connected for the game-winner.

Sophomore Jenna Brice led off the East Bladen 4th inning with a single to right field. Courtesy runner Nevaeh Brown advanced on a passed ball then went to 3rd base on sophomore Gracey Clark’s sacrifice bunt. Freshman Tatum Allen knocked in Brown with a sacrifice fly to center field that put East on top 1-0.

Freshman Taylor Dowless lined a single to left then raced to 2nd base on an error to begin the Lady Eagle 5th inning. Junior Martha Simmons was hit by a pitch, and junior Mollie Tolar raked a single through the middle that scored Dowless and padded the lead to 2-0.

Simmons, Tolar, Brice, sophomore Cabria Baldwin and Dowless smacked 1 single each for East Bladen. Dowless and Brown scored 1 run each, and Allen and Tolar drove in 1 run each.

Brice pitched 6.1 innings and allowed 3 runs – 1 earned – on 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out 2. Sophomore Olivia Brown pitched a complete game 5-hitter for West allowing 2 runs – 1 earned – while striking out 6 and walking 2.

Woodard’s home run led the Lady Trojan hitters. Chloe Ward, West and Alexis Long added 1 single each. West drove in a run, and Heady and Alivia West scored runs.
