“Congress should examine any loopholes or vulnerabilities in current law that enable modifications to create an automatic weapon. but addressing gun violence will not be resolved with further gun restrictions. Assault rifles are only used 27% of the time in public mass shootings. We need good data to identify threats and better laws to deny guns to the mentally ill. Notwithstanding, we have a culture of violence in television, movies and games that has normalized these abhorrent acts. The American people and Congress need to give thoughtful focus on mitigating this cultural evil.”
