These dog days of summer make for the perfect time to have a cup full of Sunset Slush Classic Italian Ice. Now, thanks to two Clarkton School of Discovery teachers finding a summer business Bladen County residents don’t have to drive to the beach to enjoy Sunset Slush Ice.

This is the second week in business for partners, Jennifer Marlowe and Allison Kirby, who now have an Independent Ownership in the Sunset Slush business. Their cart full of refreshing slush is set up seven days a week at Camp Clear Water at White Lake.

“We decided to do it and we needed some people we could trust to help us,” Marlowe said. Now, Cassie Hill, Emily Scott, and Sammie Bratt are helping the two new entrepreneurs scoop up and serve the delicious velvety tasting ice every day from noon until 10 pm except for on Saturdays when they start at 10 am. They have a variety of flavors to choose from each day. Cassie said her favorite is the peach, but others polled said the watermelon, strawberry, cotton candy and blue ice are favorites.

Sunset Slush Classic Italian Ice started at Ocean Isle Beach 12 years ago. They have grown over the years and now have Independent Ownerships all over North Carolina, South Carolina, Indiana, and Ohio. According to Marlowe, the two ladies got the idea after they attended a travel ball game and saw a vendor there selling snowy ice. They both agreed that Sunset Slush of Bladen would be a great way to supplement their income in the summer.

When asked if they were only going to be at Camp Clear Water for this summer, Marlowe said, “Yes we will be here at Camp Clear Water this whole summer, but Allison and I will be doing the Summer Concert Series the second and fourth Thursday with the Chamber in Elizabethtown. We can do private parties, weddings, corporate events, and birthday parties too.”

If you are in the area at Camp Clear Water, stop by and ask for a free sample. The ice is perfectly satisfying and you can’t beat helping teachers and young students trying to grow a business.
