A Clarkton man who is charged with first degree murder, appeared in Bladen County Superior Court on Monday. Harold Eugene Swindell of Clarkton appeared in court and Judge Douglas Sasser set the next court date for August 7th.

In June, the court submitted an application to the North Carolina Indigent Defense Office on behalf of Swindell. Brooke Smith, who works as an Assistant Capital Defender in Robeson County, was appointed to represent him.

Swindell is charged with first degree murder and felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is currently being held without bond. If convicted of first degree murder, Swindell could be facing the death penalty.

 

Swindell is accused of shooting Lonnie Level Smith to death at Oakdale Homes in Clarkton. The shooting occurred following an altercation in the Oakdale Homes parking lot on Wednesday, May 17. Swindell turned himself in to authorities.
