FOUR OAKS – Bladen County was eliminated from the Tar Heel Leagues District 5 10U Softball Tournament Thursday night dropping a 7-4 decision to Johnston County–South. In their 1st game Thursday, Bladen County lost 10-3 to Greater Cleveland.

Bladen County had defeated Johnston County–South 9-6 Tuesday night and finished 3rd in the tournament. Johnston County–South and Greater Cleveland will play for the district title Friday night.

Greater Cleveland 10, Bladen County 3

Greater Cleveland snapped a 3-3 tie scoring 3 runs in the 4th inning and tacking on 4 more in the 5th inning to claim a 10-3 victory in Thursday’s winner’s bracket finale.

Kenley Brisson and Jeniyah Whittington led off the game with a single each for Bladen County. Jamison Raynor slammed a 2-out double, and Alyna Olivares belted a single. Brisson and Whittington both scored for a 2-0 Bladen lead.

Greater Cleveland went on top 3-2 in the home 1st. Bladen tied the game in the 4th inning as Whittington hammered a double and scooted home when Kenadie Pusey walloped a triple.

Whittington batted 2-for-3 with a double and 2 runs scored. Brisson also finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a run scored. Pusey slugged the triple, and Raynor drilled the double. Olivares and Alaina Wilkins collected 1 hit each.

Johnston County–South 7, Bladen County 4

Johnston County–South built an early 4-1 lead then held off a Bladen County rally with a pair of insurance runs in the 6th inning to claim a 7-4 victory in Thursday’s elimination game.

Jeniyah Whittington beat out an infield hit in the Bladen 1st inning and raced home when Kenadie Pusey pounded a double to center field to tie the game 1-1.

After Johnston-South went up 5-1, Bladen rallied in the 4th inning. Whittington was hit by a pitch then stole a base. Pusey ripped a grounder off the shortstop that scored Whittington, and Jamison Raynor drilled a double to center field that scored Pusey and sliced the lead to 5-3.

Piper Thompson smoked a single to center field to begin the Bladen 5th inning. Thompson stole 2nd and 3rd bases then dashed home on Sinia Colville’s sacrifice fly to whittle the South lead to 5-4.

Khloe Campbell pitched a complete game for Bladen County and struck out 12 batters.

Pusey batted 2-for-2 with a double, 2 runs batted in and a run scored. Raynor doubled and had 1 RBI. Thompson, Whittington and Zy’Niyah Canty added 1 hit each to the Bladen attack. Whittington scored 2 runs and Thompson scored a run. Colville had 1 RBI.

Piper Thompson pitched a complete game for Bladen County and struck out 14 batters.
