The Substance Misuse Task Force is calling all community members to please join the next Substance Misuse Task Force on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at 6:30 pm. Director of the task force, Dr. Cathy Gantz, explained, “Our mission is to ensure that Bladen County organizations work together to help reduce substance misuse and addiction, prevent overdose deaths, help more people get treatment and recover from substance misuse addiction, and ultimately improve the quality of life in our community.”
The guest speakers for the meeting will be Mr. and Mrs. Lassman with the Bryan Scott Lassman Sunshine Fund charity. Bryan Scott Lassman, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lassman, was an advocate for helping people fight addiction issues. According to their website, bslsf.org, Bryan was the lead counselor out in Southampton, NY, at a counseling center called Alternatives Counseling. Bryan worked mostly with young adults and had an affinity to work with young mothers as well, but he would work with anyone in need that was fighting addiction. While many of his clients were court-mandated, most of them would seek Bryan’s continued counseling well after the period that the court required.
After their son passed away in 2018, Mr. and Mrs. Lassman wanted to continue Bryan’s work to honor his memory. The Bryan Scott Lassman Sunshine Fund is a 501C Charity.
Dr. Gantz stated, “Mr. and Ms. Lassman moved to Wallace, NC in 2020 and have been looking for opportunities to assist people with addiction issues through financial support from their charity. They are interested in working with the Bladen County Substance Misuse Task Force… We are pleased that they would like to share their story of personal loss and a difficult experience as a motivation to be a blessing to others through their charity.”
She added, “Please invite family members, friends, and neighbors to attend this meeting with you and mark your calendar for this date and time.”
