1867 – Congress commission looks into “impeachment of President Andrew Johnson.”

1905 – Telimco makes the first advertisement for a radio set by advertising an $8.50 set in “Scientific American” which claimed to receive signals for up to one mile.

1920 – First Thanksgiving Parade was held in Philadelphia.

1930 – Sporting News picks Bill Terry as National League Most Valuable Player and Joe Cronin as American League MVP.

1940 – University of Michigan retires Tom Harmon’s #98 football jersey.

1940 – Woody Woodpecker debuts with release of Walter Lantz’s “Knock Knock.”

1944 – World War II: A German V-2 rocket hits a Woolworth’s store in Deptford, United Kingdom, killing 100 shoppers.

1949 – Gene Autry’s single “Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer” appears on music charts. Songwriter Johnny Marks’ adapted poem written by brother-in-law Robert L. May for Montgomery Ward department stores.

1953 – Frank Loesser’s musical “Guys & Dolls”, starring Robert Alda, Vivian Blaine, and Sam Levens, closes at 46th St. Theater in New York City after 1,200 performances and 5 Tony Awards.

1960 – “Amos ‘n’ Andy” made its last broadcast on CBS radio.

1969 – Kansas City Royals outfielder Lou Piniella is voted American League Rookie of Year.

1973 – United States cuts maximum speed limit to 55 MPH as an energy conservation measure.

1970 – Pat Summerall and John Madden broadcast a game together for the first time, a pairing that lasts 22 years and becomes one of the most well-known partnerships in TV sportscasting history.

1980 – Sugar Ray Leonard regains World Boxing Council welterweight boxing crown when Roberto Duran quits in the 8th round of infamous “no mas” fight at the Superdome, New Orleans.

1986 – Iran-Contra affair erupts. President Ronald Reagan reveals secret arms deal.

1996 – After 24 years, Disneyland Main Street Electrical Parade ends.

2001 – CFL Grey Cup, Olympic Stadium, Montreal: Calgary Stampeders claim their fifth championship, beating the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 27-19.

2014 – Missouri Governor Jay Nixon orders hundreds more National Guard troops to Ferguson to prevent a second night of rioting and looting.

2018 – Historic north California Camp Fire declared 100% contained with 85 dead, 249 missing, covering 153,000 acres with 14,000 homes burnt.

2020 – President Donald Trump pardons former security advisor Michael Flynn, who was found guilty of lying to the FBI.
