Thoughts While Shaving
Spread the love
Thoughts While ShavingSpring came in like a lion!  Thunder, lightning, rain & cooler weather.  Hopefully no damage in the area.
Recently shared thoughts about our healthcare system with a friend ’bout my age who has had to used the services.  Both agreed, most likely, much better than years ago. Fewer MDs, but more PAs.  More specialist, in the region and a good referral system, but, without some assistance, getting into the system can be frustrating.  Once all the dots have been connected, not bad, in fact, pretty good.
Just a different world.  And, it is not going back to the days when ‘doc’ delivered babies at home.
Thankful for Bladen County Hospital and our local healthcare providers.  Just hope I do not need their services any time soon, but, comforting to know they are available if I do.
Many Clarkton area residents likely remember Tom Elkins, maybe Tommy Elkins when in school.  He responded to a recent ‘Thoughts’ column about small farmers 60-70 years ago.  Tom is retired, having spent 25-30 years working in the public service arena, as a COG (Council of Government) Executive Director, and later in state government with the NC Department of Health and Human Services.  Prior to that he served as a volunteer in the Peace Corps.
When we were both still employed, our paths crossed occasionally.  That is what I miss in retirement.

I’m not in this world to live up to your expectations and you’re not in this world to live up to mine.  Bruce Lee
