One of the guests was recently retired dentist Dr. Clem Johnson. We shared stories from long, long ago … including our early years as Jaycees … selling seat cushions for Elizabethtown Yellow Jackets football program … when was that? … early to mid-60s … Local civic clubs were very active, many supported Boys and Girls Homes at Lake Waccamaw … Some still do … A worthy cause…
Ladies college basketball championship game set for today at 2:30 p.m. LSU vs Iowa. Men’s championship game will be played Monday evening at 9:20 p.m. and pits UConn against San Diego State. It has been a tough tournament for highly ranked teams … ladies and men’s. Only the strong survive…
Totally unrelated to shower or upcoming wedding … and I have no idea why … but thought of my mom and others in the community we grew up in … was about how clothes and bedding were washed in a big wash pot, occasionally … not sure why, but it was a must-do-thing in the ’40s and ’50s … One more event during that time period … Making lye soap … in a wash-pot…
Not many toys during that time period … balls & bats for boys and baby dolls for the young girls … Some males even had a ball glove … very few if any baseball caps, or a cap of any kind.
