Thoughts While ShavingThanks to NCDOT and their contractors for a speedy repair to the bridge (US701) over the Cape Fear River near Elizabethtown … I received a message early Sunday morning that workers had worked thru the night repairing the bridge and that it could be opened by 10 a.m. I was pleasantly surprised but skeptical … Lo and behold, I received an announcement that the bridge was open, about 10 a.m. Thanks to all … easy for us to criticize the government, but this time GREAT work … and THANKS … Made a special trip after church to see for myself … Traffic was flowing like nothing ever happened…

Some families in our area are dealing with stressful issues … Prayer helps…

Too much rain in a short period of time, some water still standing, but all in all a net plus, I would think. About 4 inches of rain in a short time frame, erosion could become an issue … Hopefully, not too bad…

Weather report … Cloudy early, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 70 on this Monday. Mostly clear tonight, low around 47. Tuesday, sunny, with a high near 72 … There is a 50% chance of rain for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday … lows mostly in the low to mid 50s nightly. Highs in the low to mid 70s daily. Saturday, sunny, with a high near 78.

I hear folks, mostly retirees, concerned about their retirement … Many invested in some type of retirement that uses the stock market to stretch their funds … Dow Jones, one of the leading indicators, is up nearly 700 points over the past month … Slow growth in the economy and never ending inflation are causes for concern…

Is there anything more embarrassing than your telephone ‘sounding off’ during prayer time at church? Crap happens … Just confess, if you are the guilty party … embarrassing … I was and I did…

For many of us ‘old codgers’ … Doctor visits never end … Thankful they are available.
