Thoughts While ShavingI rose early this A.M., my usual time…When I opened my computer screen… from mid-Texas and Oklahoma, north thru South Dakota, a huge area of orange and deep red, about 3 states wide… Another heat wave, and is heading our way, as if we needed it… The eastern edge was near the middle of Tennessee… as far north as Illinois and south as eastern Georgia… More hot weather is just ahead for our area… So, enjoy the next few hours…

Sunny, today, with a high near 88.  Mostly clear tonight, low around 66.  Thursday and Sunday, with a high near 92 low Thursday night around 79…

High Friday, near 98, 99 forecast for Saturday, cooling to 92 Sunday, followed by highs in the mid to upper 80s thru next Tuesday… Plan accordingly…

A great time for sports fans…

Tonight, MacKenze Gore, a Columbus County native, is the starting pitcher for the Washington Nationals vs. the NY Yankees… His last outing was probably his best ever as a major leaguer. As a youngster and no athlete at all, I dreamed of playing for the Yankees… For what it’s worth… when the Braves moved to Atlanta… I became a Braves fan… Hank Aaron, Eddie Mathews, and a great pitching staff… Glavin, Smoltz, Maddux, and more….

PGA Championship begins Thursday…

High School football.Friday night.  West Bladen (1-0) at East Bladen (0-1)  Gametime is 7 p.m.

It should be a busy weekend at White Lake…many taking advantage of fun, maybe last chance this year with competition from back to school and more…

I often allow my thoughts to drift back to yesteryear…. and I have mentioned before…as a youngster, I looked forward to school…helped to get ‘out of the field’ for a short time…no air-air conditioning at either location… My aunt was employed at a Lumberton clothing store… purchased a few back-to-school items with money earned working in tobacco… including a new pair of shoes, a couple of pairs of blue jeans… maybe enjoy a pushup ice cream, *remember those… So different today…

Finally, I heard from a friend from long ago that included kind thoughts of yesteryear. The note Included thoughts of our working relationship, him as a county manager and me as an employee of a statewide support organization… many, many years ago… totally unexpected… much appreciated, uplifting. Filed away, but not soon forgotten… I should do some of that type of thing myself… I’m busy putting it off… again and again…
