Thoughts While Shaving for February 17

Thoughts While ShavingThe Four County Conference Basketball Tournament being played in Burgaw is providing some great basketball.  Last night, East Bladen boys won a thriller over West Bladen 83-80 in overtime and Midway girls upset East Bladen 57-47.  Tonight, East Bladen boys play Clinton for the Championship.  Game time is 7:30 PM.

Pairings for the upcoming statewide tournament should be known tomorrow (Saturday).  John Clark provides details on our Sports Page.

Can you imagine being named a National Player of the Week?  Former West Bladen, now UNCP all round athlete, extraordinaire, Abby Walters is gaining attention, nationwide.  She is putting up unreal numbers as a member of the UNCP softball team.  Go Abby, Go.

I think back to my days as a Bladenboro Bulldog.  Opponents included Elizabethtown, Clarkton, Tar Heel, White Oak, Evergreen, Orrum, Littlefield and more.  I know consolidation was necessary because of a changing curriculum, but there were some advantages to more local high schools.

Look for good in everything, like a ‘big time’ storm dislodges many loose limbs.

Kinda sad to see NC State basketball coach Mark Gottfried leaving, but, it is big time business and you win or move on.  Many good memories.  A salary in the $2M plus range should attract much attention.  Gottfried will not leave empty-handed, some good memories and a hefty bank account.

What ever you think of President Trump, he is not lacking in confidence.
