Thoughts While ShavingHave you announced your candidacy for President of the United States? As of July, 2023, a total of 155 candidates have filed with the Federal Election Commission to run for the Democratic nomination in 2024. According to those in the know, there is another large group still undecided…

There is a large group of Republicans as well … The Hester research organization, consisting of one … ME … has failed to produce a number who have filed or announced, but a sizable number … All chasing former President Trump. Trump is 76, the youngest announced is 37 … The field is diverse … and Republicans are hopeful, with candidates of color, that they can make modest progress with Black and Latinos. Both groups have overwhelmingly supported Democrats in the past … Quoting from, usually reliable sources … whoever they are.

This time next year (2024) the picture should be more clear…

Had some folks share a great article on Curtis Lee “Curt” Brown Jr. recently No, he is not running for public office that I know of … The article was in a trade publication. He may be the best known ever from Bladen County … Just a little info … He has been on six space shuttle missions (Discovery three times, Endeavor twice, Atlantis once). He attended the U.S. Air Force Academy (1978) and is a member of the NASA Astronaut Hall of Fame. He has raced a Hawker where he flew Fury at Reno, flown for the airlines, and currently flies a Grumman Albatross and a Howard 500 near his home in Minnesota. He also owns a North American T-6.

He has another long list of accomplishments. His picture has been on the side of an Elizabethtown building for many years, courtesy of some of his local friends and supporters. His family owned Western Auto in Elizabethtown for many years and he spent his early years living on a farm along NC 87 a few miles east of Elizabethtown. He and his family were and continue to be very successful in the business community … Mom and dad are deceased … He does visit his hometown from time to time.

The article was in a trade magazine … Thanks for sharing…

It has been hot recently, and the end is not in sight…

Today … showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 3 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 92 … heat values as high as 101. Chance of rain today is 60%.

Tonight, showers and thunderstorms are likely, mainly after 7 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 74 and a 60% chance of rain … Saturday … chance of showers and thunderstorms increase to 70%, with a high near 90.

Not much change, except higher temps Sunday thru Wednesday … Highs 93 to 98. Pray our air conditioning does not decide to take a break. Think it’s unbearable? Think about those with no air … maybe a fan … No place to go to cool-down…

I’m tempted to see how high the ‘Y’ type weeds will grow…

“First person to complain that it’s too hot this summer gets punched.”

“I feel like summer has taken me over.” Junot Diaz

“Ah, summer, what power you have to make us suffer and like it.” Russell Baker
