Thoughts While ShavingWhile many of us slept last night, showers and thunderstorms moved thru the area … National Weather Service reported some storms included large hail, damaging winds and heavy rain. Chance of rain was in the 70% range … and shortly after 1:30 a.m., we had a very brief shower in our area … Damage appears to be primarily in the upper Piedmont area of the state … maybe other locations

A 20% chance of rain today with showers and thunderstorms possible, mostly after 1 p.m. High today, in the 90 degree range. Mostly clear tonight, with a low around 68. Wednesday, mostly clear, high near 91.

Crops looking good … hopefully some rain from time to time, but no serious wind or hail.

I failed to report on the last outing by MacKenzie Gore, Whiteville native, left-handed pitcher with the Washington Nationals … Strong, strong outing late last week. He pitched 5 innings against his former team, San Diego Padres … Struck out nine batters … For several years, after being drafted by the Padres, he was listed as untouchable, their pitcher of the future … then he was traded to the Nationals late last season … Struggled from time to time … still having a good year with a not-so-good team … The Nationals won 8-3. His next start is expected to be against Atlanta this week.

If you received a letter from one of the area hospitals reporting the Clarkton Clinic is closing … toss it in the trash. Changes are coming mid July … The Clarkton Clinic is not closing, but will be affiliated with a different provider (Cape Fear Valley) … Would have been nice if notice had reported a change in affiliation … caused some confusion … Same staff, same location … same type health care, serving all. Understand they were flooded yesterday with anxious patients seeking clarification…

I missed my first dental appointment in a long, long time, yesterday. Our granddaughter (Dr. Clark) is our new provider … Dang, forgot, busy helping some neighbors who are dealing with some not-so-ordinary issues with one of their own … and missed my message on my calendar … I promise to do better…

So, are you ready for July 4th … A week from today?

Many, many years ago … as share-croppers, July 4th was just another workday … We were told you can celebrate later … it’s work time … and we did … worked, and play came later … We would visit a familiar nearby fishing hole…
