Thoughts While Shaving
Spread the love

Thoughts While ShavingBladen County Commissioners and staff are working on a budget for 2016-17.  Seems the needs grow each year.  One focus this year is additional staff for EMS.  Rescue Squads are strugglin’, some out of business.  Manpower, equipment, operating funds, state regulations, all come into play.  EMS is a ‘must’ service.  Don’t expect another tax increase, but change is constant and expensive.

Remember when there was no paid EMS service?  The volunteer pool is shrinking, not just EMS.  Today, fewer folks volunteer, for any number of reasons.  The economy is changing, our attitudes are changing, and the service is a must, so we must pay the bill.

What would happen if your home was totally destroyed by fire in the middle of the night?

A family in the Bladenboro area recently suffered the loss of their home and all their personal belongs.  The husband suffers from dementia.  Do not know the details, but I do know we are a loving, giving society and this is an opportunity to assist a family in their time of need.  Will attempt to provide contact info.  All I have now is it is the Gause family.

Been scanning the political landscape, the polls, when I discovered the following.  President Obama’s numbers—51% favorable, 47% unfavorable. (Rasmussen Tracking Poll-June 1)

The Congress report card as graded by the public (same poll):

Excellent Job  2%

Good Job        7%

Fair Job          30%

Poor Job         59%

7% of voters polled think the average member of Congress listens to voters.

77% of voters think members of Congress listen to party leaders.

What do you think?

I think this is true in the North Carolina Legislature and in Washington, DC.  Political party leaders are powerful folks.

Being in politics is like being a football coach: you have to be smart enough to understand the game, and be dumb enough to think it’s important.  Eugene McCarthy, former US Senator

Politics is perhaps the only profession for which no preparation is thought necessary.  Robert Louis Stevenson

The more you read and observe about the ‘Politics’ thing, you got to admit that each party is worse than the other.  Will Rogers
